Nikki is standing in bright spring
sunlight that washes over her back, while
her foal stands in her shadow.  

In this painting I experimented with
wet-on-wet techniques, dripping bright
colors into Nikki's shadow areas.  When
her "coat" was dry, I flicked droplets of
color onto her, creating her roan coat
pattern.

Nikki was a !/2 Arab Appaloosa mare who
was born on our ranch.  Her Appy mother,
Maggy was my first horse.  It was a
wonderful feeling seeing that third
generation born there!  I wish EVERY kid
who loves horses could have that experience...
