| This is a depiction of the Merced River in the Yosemite Valley. It is an exceptionally pristine and colorful river. That is Half-Dome in the distance. I used several layers of masks to create the interesting foliage patterns. I also added some line detail in the bark, branches and water with my Pentel pens. I had the most fun with this newly learned water technique! Water in watercolor is always a challenge, so I was happy with my results here. I painted "River of Mercy" when I was waiting for the results of a PET scan for thyroid cancer. It is never easy to wait for potentially bad news ESPECIALLY when you have a creative imagination! So I learned to immerse myself in detail and gained several hours of solace. Here is what I learned: The ability to paint and bring art to others is a gift! If you don't share it, it becomes a tragedy. |
