This painting was born during a trip to the beach at Montara, a small
town North of Half Moon Bay. The cave is pretty deep and I loved the
colors of the water and mossy rocks.

It was my first time using Prismacolor pencils to enhance my work. I
had been working on this and working on it and I just couldn't get the
textures on the rocks or the colors right. It was BORING! I had
recently read a book about watercolor with pen and ink, by Claudia Nice
(excellent book!) and I thought to myself ~"Well, this isn't working
anyway, why not try a little pen and ink..." SO, my studio being what it
is (MESSY!) I reached out for my pen and picked up a sap green
Prismacolor pencil! Hmmmm...well, it worked! NOW I was having fun!
My friend Nancy Roberts told me that she loved
my"moss-esque" rocks. Coming from her, that is a high compliment.
